Nestled at an altitude of 1392 meters at the foot of the imposing Plomb du Cantal, the Prat de Bouc - Haute Planèze domain is the wild gem of the Massif Central. While a ski lift allows you to cross directly over to the large Le Lioran alpine ski area, this iconic pass of the Cantal stratovolcano fiercely cultivates its own identity: that of a true sanctuary dedicated to nature and winter "Slow Tourism." It is the ultimate refuge destination for purists and lovers of vast, untouched open spaces, offering a dizzying panorama over the volcanic landscapes. Here, authenticity is not a marketing concept: the atmosphere is that of a preserved "edge of the world," where the silence is broken only by the wind on the ridges and the crunch of snow.

The Nordic Paradise of the Haute Planèze
The true identity of Prat de Bouc is expressed through its exceptional Nordic Domain. Stretching over fifty kilometers of groomed and marked trails for both skating and classic cross-country skiing, the domain connects the stunning sectors of Cézens, Paulhac, and Albepierre. Cross-country skiers glide through an Auvergne "Great North" setting, alternating between dense fir forests and vast high plateaus (the famous "planèzes"). The resort has also developed modern infrastructure with shooting ranges for biathlon initiation, making this site the absolute benchmark for Nordic activities in the Cantal region.

Snowshoeing, Ski Touring, and "Buron" Spirit
While alpine skiers may only pass through to reach the ridges, Prat de Bouc is the undisputed playground for gentle mountain activities. It is an exceptional spot for snowshoeing and ski touring. Dozens of kilometers of secured trails allow visitors to explore the national forest or climb the slopes of the Plomb du Cantal (1855m) on climbing skins. Families find a fantastic adventure ground here with free-access sledding runs and the magic of dog sledding rides. After the physical effort comes the local reward: a mandatory stop in a buron (traditional mountain shepherd's hut) at the foot of the slopes to taste an authentic Auvergne truffade. Prat de Bouc embodies an authentic, friendly, and deeply rejuvenating mountain experience.

J'ai trouvé que les pistes de skis de fond étaient plus difficiles que celles du Puy de Dôme, j'y suis plus habituée mais le cadre est magnifique et le région est très sympa
